Product Spotlight: EuroPoplar Core
Introducing a new poplar core option for our FalconPly hardwood plywood line – EuroPoplar Core! FalconPly is Timber Products’ hardwood plywood line, produced at our plywood mills in Corinth, MS, Medford, OR, and Grants Pass, OR. Our Mississippi mill, Corinth Plywood, has been producing high-end hardwood plywood for 32 years and is no stranger to poplar core. With that being said, this new poplar core is unlike any other. “This is the best core we’ve ever seen,” says Ray Null, Mill Manager of Corinth Plywood.
Poplar’s light color and uniformity make it the perfect non-telegraphing base for high-end face veneers like Sap Maple, White Oak and Mahogany. However these are just suggestions, we will leave it up to our customers to decide what face and back combinations they choose to order. Our EuroPoplar core is also nearly void-free and has excellent stability, making it the top of the line, or the “Cadillac of plywood” as Davis Edwards, Director of Eastern Plywood Sales, likes to call it.
Our market strategy for EuroPoplar Core isn’t necessarily to sell our customers truckloads of EuroPoplar core panels, but rather to make it a convenient add-on to regular orders. We hope our customers will want to order a truck with a few units of FalconPly hardwood plywood on EuroPoplar core and build out the rest of the order with other FalconPly layups and maybe some 10′ or beadboard. Offering this new EuroPoplar Core makes our Corinth Plywood mill an even stronger “one-stop shop” for all our customers.
In early February, Davis Edwards, Nick Avery, Sales Account Manager, and Janik Stallings, Quality Assurance Manager, packed up 100 boxes of EuroPoplar Core samples and sent them to many of our Eastern US customers. Many quote requests have been coming in and a few orders are already in the works. “The feedback we have received has been very positive,” says David Smith, VP of Panel Sales, “customers see the need for a high performance, lightweight core. We are well positioned to provide this high-end core choice, on demand, for customers without a large volume commitment.”
For now, our EuroPoplar Core is only available for FalconPly hardwood plywood made at our Corinth Plywood mill in Mississippi.
